COUNTY PIONEER DEAD
Sam. S. Flickinger Died Wednesday And Interred Sunday
S. S. Flickinger, pioneer and well known citizen of Indian Creek township in the vicinity of Elwell for many years, died at Clarinda on Wednesday. The remains were brought back to the home of his son Dwight the last of he week and the funeral was held yesterday, after which the remains were interred in the family burial lot by the side of his wife who died a short time ago. Mr. Flickinger had not been well for some time and had been taking treatments. The funeral services were conducted under the auspices of the Masonic lodge of which he had been a longtime member and interment was according to the ritualistic order of that lodge. Mr. Flickinger was the father of F. L. Flickinger of this city and the members of the family in Story county are tendered the most profound sympathy of all in their hours of bereavement.
Samuel Flickinger was a native of Lancaster county, Pa., where he was born seventy-two years ago. When he first came west he located at Benton county but came on to Story county about a half century ago and settled on the old Flickinger homestead in Indian Creek township, near the old town of Elwell and that had continued to be his home since.
He leaves three sons, they being E. Dwight Flickinger of Elwell, Fred S. Flickinger of Nevada and L. L. Flickinger of Carroll. His wife died a few week ago. He leaves two sister Mrs. W. E. Wills of this city and Mrs. Wilbur Bruner of Cardova, Ill. The one brother F. L. Flickinger lives at Siloam Springs, Ark. All of the relatives were here for the funeral which was held at the old homestead yesterday afternoon and interment was in the Center Grove cemetery. Interment was under the auspices of the Masonic lodge of Maxwell of which he had been a member for many years.
