Funeral Services For Frank Roche Held On Feb. 20

Funeral services for Frank Roche, 88, long time resident of Story county were held at St. Mary's Catholic church in Colo, Friday, Feb. 20 with the Solemn Requiem high mass in charge of the Rev. Vern F. Cross, Nevada, the Rev. Joseph Murphy, St. Anthony and Rev. W. W. Zigler of Marshalltown officiating.

The casket bearers were grandsons of the deceased, William Curley Jr., Bobby Good, Cecil Botts, Lawrence Lyons Jr., James Roche, and Harold Weuve Jr.

The flowers were looked after by Elizabeth Gilson, Mary Good, Vera Andrew, Rita Lyons, Arlene Roche, Berniece Weuve and Jo Ann Roche, granddaughters of the deceased.

The death of Mr. Roche occurred on Feb. 17, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. J. Curley in Marshalltown.

Obituary

Frank Roche, son of John and Madeline Roche, was born July 4, 1864, in Alsace, Lorraine, France.

He was married to Celestine Backoff, June 21, 1887. They came to Iowa in July, 1892, settling first in Melbourne where they lived for seven years during which time Mr. Roche was working on the railroad. They moved to a farm south of Colo where they lived for four years.

They then moved north of Colo living there four years before purchasing the McCane farm which was their home for over 35 years, when they sold their farm and made their home with their children.

Mr. Roche was preceded in death by his wife, Oct. 27, 1952, and by two daughters.

They had observed their 65th wedding anniversary in June, 1952.

Surviving are three sons, Joe of Zearing, John and Frank of Colo and three daughters, Mrs. Harold Weuve, St. Anthony, Mr. Rose Carmody, Nevada, and Mrs. W. J. Curley of Marshalltown. He is also survived by 27 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. One sister, Monica LeGrand and one brother, Joseph are living in Alsace-Lorraine, France.

Burial was in the Nevada Catholic cemetery.

Funeral services were in charge of the Ryan Funeral home in Nevada. Rosary services were held at the home of Mrs. Rose Carmody in Nevada, where the body was lying in state until the funeral hour.
