Rawson Funeral Held Thursday

Slater, Feb. 16--Funeral services for Mrs. Catherine Rawson were held at the Bethlehem church, Thursday at 2 p. m. The services were in charge of Rev. E. R. Rorem. Members of the Rebekah lodge served as pall bearers: Mrs. L. E. Mason and Mrs. A. D. Johnson of Ames, Mrs. R. G. Nott, Mrs. Andrew Holmes, Mrs. Emma Van Gundy and Mrs. Fred Carroll. The choir sang "Lead Kindly Light" and "Now the Day is Over," Mrs. M. S. Heggen and Mrs. A. L. Peterson sang a duet "My Faith Looks Up to Thee" and the mens chorus sang "God Be With Till We Meet Again." The floral offerings were numerous and unusually beautiful. Interment was made in the Slater cemetery.Catherine Huston was born in Pittsburgh, Penn., August 29, 1848. She moved to Oneida, Ill., with her parents where her girlhood days were spent. She taught school in the vicinity of Oneida for a number of years. In 1876 she was married to Dr. Edmund A. Rawson. They made their home at Panora and Dallas Center. In 1884 they moved to Sheldahl then came to Slater four years later and remained here till the Dr. retired from practice in 1910.
They spent a year in Oregon, Idaho and California. On their return they made their home at Madrid where Dr. Rawson died in 1914. After her husband's death she returned to Slater where she made her home until her death February 9. Mrs. Rawson had a large circle of friends here who will miss her. She leaves one son T. W. Rawson of Slater one step-son, J. E. Rawson of Denver, Colo, a step daughter, Mrs. Blanche Fread of Boston, Mass. and a sister Miss Sadie Huston of Kewanee, Ill.
Among those from out of town in attendance at the services were J. E. Rawson of Denver, Hon. Oley Nelson, Ethel Fread, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Nelson of Des Moines, Miss Marian Heinrichs of Armstrong, Mrs. A. G. Bullington, Mrs. H. D. Graves, B. F. Anderson of Madrid, Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Mason and Mrs. A. D. Johnson of Ames.
