TRAGIC DEATH OF PHILLIP CURTIS

FORMER NEVADA MAN VICTIM OF ACCIDENT SATURDAY NIGHT

Phillip H. Curtis, 54, former resident of Nevada, is dead today as a result of an accident at Sheffield, on the Rock Island north of here Saturday, when he was run over by a Rock Island train.

Identity was established through a prayer book found on his person and his brother J. E. Curtis, hastened to his bedside at the Lutheran hospital at Hampton, where the unconscious man had been taken, but be passed away early Sunday morning, without regaining consciousness.

The particulars of the accident are not known. Curtis who had been away from Nevada for many years, had been employed in various railroad work for 21 years.

Phillip Curtis, son of Patrick and Mary Curtis, was born November 6, 1876, at Towanda, Ill. There he grew to young manhood and came with the family out to Nevada in the spring of 1895.

For the past over 21 years he had been in the railroad service

The remains were brought to Nevada Sunday and taken to Bishop's Funeral home. The funeral will be held Tuesday morning at St. Patrick's Catholic church, with his old pastor, Father M. Nichols in charge. Interment will be in St. Patrick's cemetery.

He leaves two brothers and one sister. The brothers are James Curtis of Milford township an Joseph E. Curtis of near St. Anthony, while the sister is Mrs. Catherine Maroney formerly of Ames, but not of Long Beach, Calif.

He also leaves seven nephews and seven nieces. The nephews, all sons of his brother, Joseph, are Joseph, Jr., Kenneth, Donald, Harold, Robert, Paul and Patrick. The nieces are Mrs. James Kinnick of Long Beach, Mrs. Stewart White of Orange, Calif., Josephine, Mildred, and Sarah Jane Maroney of Long Beach and Edna and Genevieve Curtis of near Nevada in Milford township.
