FORMER NEVADA MAN DIED IN ILLINOIS
JOHN MATHISON*, 54, WAS NATIVE OF GRANT TOWNSHIP, THIS COUNTY.
John Mathison, 54, died at his home at Earlville, Ill., Friday afternoon, according to word received by relatives in Nevada. Funeral services will be held at Earlville Sunday afternoon and interment will be in the cemetery at that place. Cancer was the cause of death.
John Mathison*, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Lars Mathison, was a native son of Story county, being born on a farm in Grant township, southwest of Nevada.
He was married while still a resident of Story county* and for a time farmed near McCallsburg and later west of Nevada on the Lincoln highway. The family moved to Earlville possibly fifteen years ago and has lived there since.
He leaves a wife and nine children. But one of children is married. Five of the smaller ones are at home with the parents.
He also leaves two brothers and two sisters. The brothers are Martin Mathison of Tacoma, Wash., and Matis Mathison of Nevada; while the sisters are Mrs. Allen Baumgardner and Mrs. Sam Ugolini of Nevada.
Mr. Mathison had been failing for some time and had been at the Mayo clinic at Rochester, Minn., where it was discovered that he was suffering from a cancer from which there was no hope of cure.
The brother Matis Mathison and sister Mrs. Ugolini returned from Earlville but a few days ago after having been called there by his very critical condition.
*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: The deceased is John L. Matison, not Mathison as stated. He married Nina Mae Cook on 2 January 1901 in Marathon, Buena Vista County, Iowa.
