NEAR CENTENARIAN DIED AT SLATER
MRS. SARAH HILL PASSED AWAY AT LANDE HOME THERE TUESDAY

Slater, Jan. 30--Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Hill, 95, were held at the Bethlehem Lutheran church, Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The services were in charge of Rev. E. R. Rorem. Many beautiful floral offerings covered the casket. The choir sang "Jesus Lover of My Soul" and "He Leadeth Me." A duet, "Engaging Min Livstraad Briste Skal," was sung by Miss Margaret Fritz and Mrs. M. S. Heggen. The men's chorus sang "Near, Near to Thee." The pall bearers were Sanford and Clayton Lande, Barney, Clarence and Jerome Hill and Amos Lande.Mrs. Sarah Hill was born in Ness, Skonevig, Norway, June 27, 1835 and died at her daughter's home, Mrs. A. A. Lande, January 27, 1931, aged 95 years and 7 months.
She came to America with her mother in 1849 and made their home near Lisbon, Ill. She was married to Barney Hill in 1853. Eight children were born to this union, five of whom died.
Mr. and Mrs. Hill in 1855, left Illinois in company with a group of Norwegian pioneers, who settled in Palestine township. They made their home there the greater part of their life. Her husband died in 1885.
The past ten years she had made her home with Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Lande. She is survived by two sons, P. L. Hill of Slater, Henry Hill of Huxley, and one daughter, Mrs. A. A. Lande, also 14 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild.
