Crook Funeral Wednesday Afternoon
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Crook, 80, who died at the home of her son Bert Crook on Second street, Nevada, Monday were held Wednesday afternoon at the Bishop Funeral Home, with Rev. H. LeRoy Kinser in charge. Interment was in the Ames cemetery.
Mrs. Crook was born in Adams county, Ill., Dec. 6, 1851 and while she was still a child, her parents moved to Marshall county. There she grew to womanhood. In 1869 she was united in marriage to Brunson Crook and they began their home in Peoria county. To this union was born 11 children, 2 passing away in infancy and another while still a small child.
Mrs. Crooks eyes failed her in 1918 and she became blind. In 1919 she moved with her husband to Story county, Iowa and made their home with their son Bert who was then living on a farm near Ames. On May 25, 1925 he husband, Brunson Crook passed away and was buried in the Ames cemetery. Later she and Bert moved to Nevada where they have made their home until her death.
When a young woman she accepted the leadership of her Lord and saviour and walked daily in the faith. Many times she was heard to say, she was ready to go when her Lord saw fit to take her. She bore her affliction happily and said she would rather be blind than deaf.
She leaves to mourn 8 children, Mrs. Anna Harring [should be Herring] of Bravo, Michigan; Mrs. Mary Anthony of Peoria, Ill.; Mrs. Mandy Earnest [should be Ernst] of Peoria; Ray [should be Roy] of Emmetsburg, Iowa; Lowell of Newton, Iowa; Will of Joliet, Ill.; Bert of Nevada.
Two sisters: Mrs. Finnie [should be Sophina "Vinnie"] Thrasher and Mrs. Sarah Pervan.
Thirty seven grandchildren and nineteen great grand children, besides other relatives and friends.
