Funeral Services for Mrs. George Mowen

Special to the Journal.
Maxwell, July 2--Funeral services for Mrs. Geo. V. Mowen, who passed away Monday at her home, were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Methodist church in Maxwell. Rev. Scheuermann, former pastor, had charge of the services assisted by Rev. Pettit. Music was furnished by a mixed quartette. Burial was in the Peoria cemetery.

Anna Barbara Hartung, daughter of William and Mary Hartung, was born April 4, 1867, in Washington township, Polk county, Iowa, and passed away at her home south of Maxwell, June 28, 1937 at the age of 70 years, 2 months and 24 days. She resided in the Maxwell community all her life passing away at her home where she lived throughout her married life, with the exception of a few years spent in Maxwell.

She was united in marriage to Geo. V. Mowen Oct. 7, 1888 who survives her. She is also survived by Russell Mowen, a foster son, one brother Fred Hartung of Seattle, Washington, two sisters, Mary Ruifrok of Saginaw, Mich. and Mrs. Ursula Carver of Maxwell.

She received her education in the public schools and later attended Calimhman college of Des Moines after which she taught school for four years.

She united with the Evangelical church at Mt. Zion and was an active worker in the Sunday school and missionary society at that place. Later she transferred her membership to the M. E. church of Maxwell, where she was a member until her death.

Mrs. Mowen was a woman of quiet disposition, eager to maintain her home as a place of fine sociability and fellowship. She was loyal to her family, sympathetic in supporting causes that made for the right and a loyal and faithful followers of her Master, working enthusiastically for His church.

She leaves besides her immediate family many warm friends and kind neighbors whose lives have been blessed by hers.
