FORMER ZEARING MAN IS DEAD

ERIC* L. BELDEN PASSED AWAY AT CLARINDA ON THURSDAY

Zearing, July 1--Word reaches here of the death of Eric* L. Belden, 53, retired train dispatcher of the Northwestern, who made his home at Boone, who passed away at the state hospital at Clarinda, Thursday morning at 9:45, following a lingering illness which covered a period of 18 months.

Although he has been gradually failing in health, he had been seriously ill since Monday. His wife had been with him for several months at Clarinda.

He is the eldest son of Charles L. and Addie Belden of Zearing. He was born here September 15, 1878 and grew to manhood in Zearing. Upon graduation from the local school he learned telegraphy from James Johnson who was agent of the M. & St. L. railway company here. Upon completion of this work here he went to Marshalltown where he was operator for the Northwestern railroad company for a number of years and also at Boone. Then he went to Belle Plaine where he was train dispatcher for the same company. Later he transferred to Clinton, Boone, back to Clinton where he resigned his position in December, 1930, due to ill health from over work, after 30 years of continuous service to the company.

He was married to Alice Sheldon of Marshalltown and to this union one daughter, Alice, was born. Her mother passed away when she was a baby and she has made her home with her grandmother Sheldon at Marshalltown.

Later Mr. Belden married Anna Strandberg of Marshalltown, who survives him with his daughter Alice, one brother, Lester of Spirit Lake and his mother, Mrs. Addie Belden of Zearing. The father died several years ago.

Funeral services will be held at Boone, Saturday at 11 o'clock with burial in Boone cemetery.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: The deceased is Etric Lazet Belden, not Eric as stated. Etric L. Belden married (1) Carolyn E. "Carrie" Sheldon on 12 July 1904 in Marshall County, Iowa. Carrie died on 8 November 1907. He married (2) Anna Strandberg on 2 February 1913 in Algona, Kossuth County, Iowa.
