MRS. JACKSON DIED AT HOME FOR AGED
AGED NEVADA WOMAN PASSED AWAY THURSDAY EVENING
Mrs. Ellen Persons-Jackson, 80, died at the Home for the Aged on University avenue, Des Moines, Thursday evening at 8:00. The body was brought immediately to Nevada and is now at the Bishop Funeral home.
The funeral will be held at the Bishop Funeral home, Fifth and Lincoln, Nevada, Sunday afternoon at 2:00, after which interment will be in the Ames cemetery. The service will be in charge of her old friend Rev. C. E. Lookingbill, assisted by Rev. George A. Lawton.
Mrs. Jackson, whose maiden name was Ellen Newkirk, was a native of Ohio, wher she was born July 22, 1852. She came to Iowa with her parents when a girl and had lived in Story county since the very early '60s.
She was married first to a Mr. Persons, son of a pioneer family and they lived in the Walnut Grove neighborhood. Two children were born to them. The husband and one child died and she is survived by one son, Eugene Persons of Meservy.
Later she married to Alonzo Jackson and for several years they had a home in Nevada and her second husband died here about six years ago. Shortly after the death of her husband Mrs. Jackson made arrangements for a room at the Home for the Aged and there her home has been since.
Death was due to complications incident to old age, she having been failing for some time.
Ellen Newkirk, daughter of B. L. and Martha Newkirk was born in Clearmont county, Ohio, July 20, 1852. There the family live until she was four years of age, then they moved to Indiana, where they lived five years, after which they came out to Iowa, settling first in Polk county.
She was united in marriage to Clarence E. Person, October 30, 1879. Two children were born, Eugene H., is now a resident of near Meservy, while the daughter, Jessie T., died at the age of 19 years.
Mr. Person departed this life December 21, 1891, and she was married to Alonzo A. Jackson, who died about six years ago.
Mrs. Jackson was converted when 21 years of age and had since lived a consistent Christian life and raised her family in a Christian home. In her own words, "I was sanctified in June 1896 and have since walked in the light of that experience to the best of my knowledge."
For many years she had been a member of the Nevada Methodist Episcopal church and she is kindly remembered in Nevada by a circle of warm friends.
