AGED WOMAN WAS CALLED BY DEATH
MRS. SHIELD PASSED AWAY AT THE HOME OF HER DAUGHTER
Special to the Journal.
Collins, March 29--A death which brought sadness to the community was that of Mrs. Minnie Loo Shields, 69, who died at six o'clock Monday morning at the home of her daughter Mrs. C. E. Fish, just south of Collins.She was born May 12, 1863, at Medina, in Lenawee county, Michigan, the only child of Andrew and Cordelia Sheldon.
She came to Story county with her people when a child of two years and made her home with her grandmother, Mrs. H. A. Higley of near Nevada.
At the age of 16 years she returned to Lansing, Mich, where she attended normal school.
She was united in marriage to Anderson Shields at Iowa Center, October 28, 1886. Mr. Shields died in February 1929.
The family home continued near Iowa Center and their three children were born there. Three of the children, Ruth Coggshall, Leo Shield and on infant are dead.
The living children are Curt Shields of Sterling, Colo., Sheldon of Jewellsburg, Colo., Mrs. Beula Howell, Maxwell, Mrs. Neva Steward of Eldora, Mrs. Mary Winterowd of Alhambra, Calif., Mrs. Florence Fish of Collins and Leo Carthon of Hammond, Ind. There are also 10 grandchildren and 3 half sisters. The latter are Mrs. Kent, Burt and Mrs. Lena Sheldon, Salt Lake City, Utah and Mrs. Florence Loomis of Los Angeles.
Mrs. Shields was a member of the Presbyterian church of Maxwell and burial will be in the Iowa Center cemetery. No funeral arrangement have been made.
