NEVADA FARMER DIED EARLY TODAY

NEWTON SHAFFER PASSED AWAY AFTER A LINGERING ILLNESS

Newton Shaffer, 69, well-known farmer of just south of Nevada, died at his country home at 8:30 this morning, after a lingering illness, he having been a patient sufferer for over a year.

The funeral services will be held at the Bishop Funeral home, Fifth and Lincoln, Sunday afternoon at 2:00, after which interment will be in the Nevada cemetery by the side of the wife who died about four yeas ago.

Mr. Shaffer had been a resident of this community for nearly two score years, having come here with his family in 1894. His life had been spent here continuously since that time, with the exception of 3 years spent in Worth county.

During his long residence in the county through his friendly and jovial disposition and honest and upright business transactions he had built up a wide circle of friends who, with the family will greatly miss him.

Newton Shaffer was born Feb. 6, 1863 at Tipton, Cedar county, Iowa, the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Shaffer and passed away at his farm home south of Nevada, March 17, 1932, aged 69 years, 1 month and 9 days. He grew to manhood in the vicinity near Tipton. He was united in marriage to Adeline Flater, March 11, 1882. To this union were born five children: Lydia Lounsberry, Chloe Williams of Nevada; Clara Whitinger of Elma; Arthur E., Nevada and Ethel Reitz, deceased. He was preceded in death by his wife July 26, 1928. He leaves to mourn besides his immediate family, a brother John I. Shaffer of Topeka, Kansas; a sister, Elizabeth Pendleton of Webster City, and Emma Ellis of Chicago, also fourteen grand children and two great grandchildren, numerous other relatives and friends.
