From Nevada Evening Journal June 30, 1911 (page 1 continued to page 8)

SLATER

Haltsen Peterson, who had been living alone in a little cottage a block north of the park, was found Sunday morning in a percarious condition and removed to the home of Peter Houge north of town where he is now cared for by his daughter, Mrs. Houge. Mrs. Christina Nelson who resides on the opposite side of the street had noticed on Saturday that Mr. Peterson was not to be seen about the house and went over to investigate, but finding the doors all locked and the shades drawn she concluded that he was not at home. Sunday morning she concluded to make a more thorough examination with the result that she found Mr. Peterson lying in bed and the first impression was that he was already dead; but a doctor was called and under his treatment he was revived. The aged man had been taken sick Friday night and severe hemorrhage had resulted in loss of blood which left him in a weak and semi-conscious condition.

SUBMITTER'S NOTE: This correspondence from Slater must have made the Journal after the passing of Halsten Peterson. His death record states he died on 15 June 1911 in Palestine Township, Story County, Iowa. It also gives his date of birth as 28 December 1828 in Norway and parents as Peder Veste and Bertha Egenes.
