Smith Funeral Held Wednesday

A large group of relatives and friends gathered at the Bishop Funeral Home on Lincoln avenue Wednesday afternoon to pay a final tribute to Russell Smith, 35, who died Monday following a tragic accident at his home in Ames Sunday.

The service was in charge of Rev. Charles Pickford, former pastor and friend, while three duets were sung by Misses Martha and Eunice Spivey, with Mrs. Forester at the piano.

Interment was in the Nevada cemetery.

Russell William Smith, son of Emanuel M. and Mary E. Smith, was born near McCallsburg, Story County, Iowa, June 2, 1897 and passed away at the Mary Greeley hospital in Ames February 29 at the age of 34 years, 8 months and 27 days.

He moved to Renwick, Iowa, with his parents in 1910 and there he grew to manhood.

On January 1, 1918 he was united in marriage to Pearl M. Rice. The first 7 years of their married life were spent on a farm near Renwick. In 1925 they moved to a farm near Clear Lake where they resided for 3 years. In the spring of 1928 they came to Ames, which has since been their home.

To this union six children were born, all of whom with the wife, survive the husband and father. The children are Donald, 12, Kenneth, 11, Duane, 9, Clarene, 7, Betty, 5 and Elizabeth, 3.

Besides the wife and children, he leaves to mourn his departure, his mother, Mrs. Mary E. Smith, three brothers, Harlan, Earl and Glenn all of Ames and two sisters, Mrs. Blanche Engstrom of Kenosha, Wisconsin and Mrs. Bertha Davis of Renwick. His grandmother, Mrs. Rose Cook of Nevada also survives, besides other relatives and a host of friends.
