FUNERALS HELD FOR TWO PIONEERS
AUNT JANE SHOOP AND DAN BENNETHUM DIED AT MAXWELL THIS WEEK

Maxwell, March 5--Two of the real pioneers of the Indian Creek neighborhood were laid to rest in the Maxwell cemetery within the past few days, after having passed away in the same house, within a few hours.Funeral services for Mrs. Jane Shoop, 84, "Aunt Jane" as she was known by many, were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock in the Methodist church, with the pastor, Rev. W. M. Scheuermann in charge. Interment was made in the Maxwell cemetery beside her husband who died four years ago and their daughter, Mrs. Harry Knight, who died in 1921. Mrs. Shoop was born Jane Brown, in Ohio, September 8, 1847, a daughter of John and Eliza Brown and died Sunday afternoon in the home of her niece, Mrs. D. D. Bennethum. She had been in failing health for a number of years and death was due to infirmities of age. She is survived by one son, Charles Shoop of Los Angeles, two brothers, John W. of Missouri and Peter Brown, of Clear Lake, a son-in-law, Harry Knight of Mason City, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was a member of local Methodist Episcopal church.
Another Pioneer Gone
Daniel D. Bennethum, 77, a resident of this place for thirty years died suddenly at his home here Monday afternoon, February 29.
Death was due to stroke of apoplexy.
He leaves besides his widow five children.
The daughters are Mrs. Wm. Kensinger and Mrs. Delbert Oxley of Aitkin, Minn., Mrs. Nathaniel Harris of Brainerd, Minn. and Mrs. Clyde Hopper of Colo. One sons Walter Bennethum of Aitkin, Minn.
His brothers are William, of Madrid, and George, of Colorado Springs, and a sister Mrs. Lewis Kitchen of near Maxwell.
The funeral rites were held Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock in the Methodist church in charge of the pastor, the Rev. W. M. Scheuermann. Burial was made in the family lot in the Evergreen cemetery at Iowa Center.
