Funeral Services for Mrs. Celia Houge

Special to the Journal.
Slater, March 1--Funeral services for Mrs. Celia Houge were held at the Will Van Gundy home Sunday at 1:30 p. m. and at the Bethlehem church at 2 o'clock. Rev. P. Buland of the Lincoln church, her pastor, had charge of the services and spoke in the Norwegian language. Rev G. C. Swain, pastor of the Methodist church spoke in the English language. The scripture passage was read by Rev. E. R. Rorem. Mrs. A. A. Chader and Mrs. Bert Sutter had charge of the many beautiful floral offering. The Men's Chorus sang "Abide With Me," and "The Old Rugged Cross."

Rev. G. C. Swaim sang, "We'll Never Say Goodbye."

Solo "Hvad En Ven Vi Har i Jesus"--Miss Ruth Halverson.

Solo "In the Sweet Bye and Bye"--Miss Leola Clark

The pall bearers were Clarence Clark, Charles Skortman, H. E. Halverson, A. A. Lande, J. J. Carlson and Oliver Richardson.

Celia Peterson was born in Bergen, Norway September 20, 1862.

Her parents were Olstan and Anna Peterson. She came to America when 9 years old with her parents, and came to Story county. Her marriage to Peter Houge took place March 14, 1884. In 1885 they moved to McCook, Nebraska, where they made their home for nine years, after which they returned to Slater and moved to a farm 4 miles north of here. Her husband died in 1912. In 1914, she moved to Slater with her children where she has lived since that time. Mrs. Houge had not been well for several months and had suffered several heart attacks. Death came rather suddenly Friday, February 26th, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Will Van Gundy. She leaves to mourn her loss, three daughters Mrs. Will Van Gundy of Slater, Mrs. D. P. Clements and Mrs. R. W. Zenor of Des Moines and two sons W. O. Houge of Floyd and Milford Houge of Des Moines. One brother, Chris Peterson of Nevada, eighteen grand children and two great grand children and a host of relatives and friends. She was sixty-nine years old.
