Maxwell, Oct. 31--Funeral services for Mrs. Josephine Allen were held in the Elwell church Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. Pickford of Nevada having charge of the service assisted by Rev. Reed. Music was furnished by Mrs. C. I. Kirk, Mrs. Miles Cook, Mrs. J. B. Scott and Mrs. N. A. Pearson with Mrs. E. L. Wood at the piano. The songs were "The Old Rugged Cross," "In the Garden" and "The End of the Road." Pall bearers were Will Warren, C. A. Wickard, Robt. Cairns, H. W. Phillipps, J. Harmon and Clarence Rouzer. Burial was in the Center Grove cemetery near Elwell.

Josephine De Lawyer was the daughter of John and Maria De Lawyer. She was born Feb. 22, 1855 and died at her home near Maxwell Oct. 28, 1933 at the age of 78 years, 8 months and 6 days. She was united in marriage to Samuel Allen and to this union seven children were born, John of Des Moines, Marshall of Grand Junction, Mrs. Josephine Faulkner of Valley Junction, Mrs. Jess Hainline of Polk City, Charley and Mrs. Ida Hubbard of Maxwell. Walter, a son passed away about twenty-five years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Allen were long time residents of this community.

Her last illness dated back to the early part of last summer, and she suffered a number of paralytic strokes in the meantime, which rendered her helpless toward the end of her life.

She was converted to God some 45 years since a special revival meeting conducted by Dr. D. J. Bunce, formerly of Nevada, and united with the Mt. Zion Evangelical church, and has been a faithful member of the same since that time. When the Elwell church was built she transferred her membership there, and was one of the charter members of that organization, and faithful in attendance and support as long as her health and strength permitted the same. She was a good mother to her children, and in the 25 years that have passed since her husband's death, she has kept the home fires burning and best she could, and succeeded in doing so. She was a kind neighbor and a true friend to those who knew her.
