BENTON SHENLE DIED AT COLLINS

WAS PIONEER RESIDENT OF THAT PART OF COUNTY; FUNERAL WEDNESDAY

Special to the Journal.
Collins, Nov. 7--W. T. B. Shenkle, 75, native son of this community, died at his home in Collins Monday evening at 5:00 of heart trouble, from which he had been a sufferer for a number of years.

Funeral services for this pioneer will be held Wednesday afternoon at the United Brethren church, of which he had long been a member. The service will be in charge of his pastor, Rev. George Cornford, and the interment in the Collins cemetery will be under the ritualistic ceremonies of the Masonic lodge, of which he was a member.

Mr. Shenkle, familiarly known as Benton Shenkle, was the youngest child of Benjamin and Edith Shenkle, who came here in 1854. He was born July 6, 1858 and had lived in the community for the most of his life.

He was married in 1884 to Miss Elizabeth Tipton and to them one child was born dying in infancy. The wife lived until July 4, 1919, when she passed away.

He was again married, this time on November 17, 1926, when he took Mrs. Edith McCord-Funk as his bride and she, with a wide circle of other relatives and friends survives him.

He had been a lifelong member of the United Brethren church and active in the Masonic and O. E. S. circles.

During his life he had been engaged in farming, was for a time in the hardware business at Churdan, was in the lumber and coal trade in Collins and of later years had been in the real estate and insurance business.

He had always been one of the prominent and active figures in the Collins neighborhood and his death will be the cause of deep regret on the part of the people of the community, as well as in other parts of Story county, where he was well and favorably known.
