Winkler Funeral Friday Morning; Died in Denver

Funeral services for the late O. A. Winkler, 94, Civil War veteran who died at the home of his niece Mrs. Bendinger in Denver, April 25, were held Friday morning at the Nevada Methodist church, with the pastor Rev. Geo. A. Lawton in charge. Interment was n the Nevada cemetery by the side of his wife who died her a number of years ago.

The body arrived here Thursday noon over the Northwestern, accompanied by the niece at whose home he had passed away.

Mr. Winkler had been a resident of Nevada for a number of years, coming here in 1914 and remaining here until 1928. Following the death of his wife he made his home with his daughter Mrs. Caddie Harris until her death in April, 1928, after which he returned to Indiana and later went to Denver.

He was born at Rockford, Spencer county, Indiana, in October, 1839 and died at Denver April 25, 1933, aged 93 years, 6 months and 10 days. He was a son of Thomas and Sallie Winkler and was one of a family of twelve children of which there were six sons and six daughters, all of whom preceded him in death.

Mr. Winkler served during the war with the 25th Indiana infantry. Returning home from the war he was married to Mary Lemons and to this union two children were born, the son Walter and daughter Caddie, the latter who became the wife of Chas. W. Harris of Nevada and it was this marriage that brought the parents to Nevada where the wife died.

The only daughter, Mrs. Harris. preceded him in death five years ago.

During his residence in Nevada Mr. Winkler was an active member of the Nevada Methodist Episcopal church and it was upon his personal request that his body was brought back to Nevada, the services held in that church and his body laid to rest in the Nevada cemetery.

During his residence here he was also actively associated with the Jason D. Ferguson Post G.A.R., and served that organization as an officer at times.
