Christiansen Funeral Was Well Attended

Special to the Journal.
McCallsburg, April 29--The funeral of Mrs. Anna G. Christiansen was held Tuesday afternoon at the Bethany Lutheran church and was largely attended, Rev. H. N Bakke, pastor of the church officiating assisted by Rev. Sumstad of Roland. The music was furnished by the ladies by the ladies quartette, Mrs. O. E. Ritland, Mrs. Berger Imsland, Mrs. O. V. Olson and J. I. Gjerde and the Misses Johanna and Leonard Osheim of Roland. Pall bearers were J. S. Thompson, T. O. Hegland, Chas. Christian, P. F. Pederson, C. H. Risdal and M. O. Ferkin. Burial was made in the Warren twp. cemetery.

Anna Gurine Svendsbeen* was born Sept. 7, 1855 at Vikebygd, Norway, and died at the home of her daughter in Roland, April 21, at the age of 77 years, after an illness of several months with heart trouble and high blood pressure when she got so poorly she was unable to care for herself, and she went to Roland to the home of her daughter Mrs. Eli Johnson where she remained until relieved by death.

She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ole Svendsbeen and in 1881 was married to Maurice Amunson*. To this union five children were born, two dying in infancy and her husband died 1892. She and her three daughters immigrated to America in 1895 in which year she was married Aslak Christianson. To this union was born two children. Mr. Christianson died in 1901.

They lived a while in Hardin county then moved to a farm north of McCallsburg and in 1919 she moved to McCallsburg. Her daughter Otelia died in 1904 and Amanda in 1921. She is survived by three children, Mrs. Eli Johnson of Roland, Severin Christianson of Hubbard, Mrs. Carl Handeland of this place. She is survived by 16 grandchildren, also a sister Mrs. Martha Sund of Thompson and two brothers Mons and Lars in Norway, Europe.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: The maiden name of Anna Gurine Svendsbeen has also been recorded as Olesdatter and Olson.

The death record of Otelia Annaniason, who died 23 November 1921 (not 1904 as stated, names her parents as Mannasa Annaniason (not Maurice Amunson) and Anna Oleson. In the Story County, Iowa 1925 census, Magdalena Johnson wife of Eli Johnson, gives her parents' names as Manase Annansian and Anna Olson.
