FRED BERKA OF COLO DEAD TODAY

LONG TIME SECTION FOREMAN ON NORTHWESTERN THERE CALLED BY DEATH

Special to the Journal.
Colo, April 21--Fred Berka, 48, died at his home about midnight after an illness which had dated from the latter part of February. He was taken worse on Wednesday and while he had been able to be up and down since that time, it was realized that his condition was serious and a trip to a nerve specialist was contemplated when the summons suddenly came. Death was due to nerve trouble and other complications.

Mr. Berka was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Berka of Nevada and was born a Montour, June 7, 1885. He came to Nevada with his parents as a boy, in early manhood he was appointed section foreman for the Northwestern at Colo and this had been his home for 28 years.

He was united in marriage to Miss Mamie Devine of Colo January 10, 1912 at Nevada and their home had been in Colo continually since.

He leaves besides his wife and their one son Frederick Jr. his parents, three brothers and three sisters. One brother, Lou, died a few years ago and two sisters, Mrs. Lottie Porter and a baby, Mary, are dead. Those surviving are the brothers Milo, Jerry and Harry, all of Nevada and sisters, Mrs. Mayme Soper, Miss Louise Berka and Mrs. Betty Erickson, the latter of Kinross.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday morning at 9:00 at St. Mary's church, while interment will be at St. James cemetery.

Mr. Berka was a man o high moral character and was greatly respected in the community in which he had spent the entire period of his adult life.

He was a man of considerable musical talent and in that line of endeavor had always taken his part.

Fred Berka was a good husband and father as well as a citizen of value to the community in which he has cast his lot, and the community is better for him having lived in it.
