Larry L. Dyer, 70, of Ames died suddenly at his home Saturday, June 25. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 30, at Bethesda Lutheran Church with the Rev. Randy Gehring officiating.
Larry L. Dyer was born March 10, 1935, in Des Moines, the son of Walter E. and Margaret (Samuelson) Dyer. He was a1953 graduate of Ames High School and attended Electrical Technician School in Kansas City. He married Dorothy Schomaker July 26, 1959.
He worked at Iowa State University in the meat lab as an equipment specialist for 16 years before he retired in 1997. He operated Ames Fire Extinguisher Inc. for 30 years; he was a fireman from 1959-71 and was maintenance foreman for Hunziker and Furman Realty for 21 years. He was a member of Triple G Square Dance Club and was former chairman of the property board at Bethesda. He served in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Ames; two daughters, Nancy (Gene) Gealow of Spring, Texas, and Susan (Dwight) Bergles of Baltimore, Md.; and three grandchildren, Ryan and Stephanie Gealow, and Henry Bergles.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Gene.
Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today at Bethesda Lutheran Church with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Bethesda Lutheran Church.
