THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, June 29, 2005.

Glen M. Lowman, 90, of Ames died Monday, June 27, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, July 1, at United Church of Christ-Congregational with the Rev. Henry Campbell officiating. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Glen M. Lowman was born April 23, 1915, in Graettinger, the son of Robert C. and Effie (Sutter) Lowman. He graduated from Kelley High School in 1933. He attended Iowa State University. He married Dorothea K. Hibbs Oct. 10, 1936, in Sioux City.

He was a circulation manger for the Des Moines Register and Tribune from 1945-79. He began his real estate career in 1962 with Hunziker and Furman Realty and continued there until he retired in 1987. In June 1973, he sold one home per day for the entire month. He was a member of the Ames Lions Club, the Elks Club, the Register and Tribune Retiree's Club and a past member of the Ames Golf and Country Club and a member of United Church of Christ-Congregational. He was an avid sportsman; he enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially on his farmland west of Boone. Glen and his wife, Dorothea, enjoyed golfing and dancing together.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dorothea; one daughter, Sherry Ann (Paul) Kantzler of Salem, S.C.; two sons, Jon R. (Jill) Lowman of Ames and Terry L. (Mark Kassis) Lowman of Ames; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret (Jake) Bram of Oskaloosa and Velma Rice of Tulsa, Okla.; and one brother, Donald Lowman of Mount Ayr.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Loyal; and one sister, Maytha.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 30, at Adams Funeral Home in Ames with family present from 6 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Youth and Shelter Services or Habitat for Humanity.
