Funeral Rites Held at Maxwell for Mrs. Rose Miller

Maxwell, Jan. 4--Funeral rites for Mrs. Rose Miller, 80, widow of the late Sam J. Miller, who passed away Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harve J. Cole in Parry were held in Maxwell Sunday afternoon at 2:30 in the home of her sister, Mrs. H. J. Garlock.

The rites were in charge of the Rev. H. Baker, pastor of the Presbyterian church at Perry, who gave the scripture readings and prayer service. The flower tokens and expressions of friendship were many and most beautiful. Pallbearers were Fornie Strombeck, George Cole, Major Dunahoo, M. E. Smith, Glen Scott and George D. Olinger.

Mrs. Miller, whose maiden name was Mary Rose Etta Hall, was born June 28, 1859 in the country home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Noble P. Hall, a mile east of what is now Maxwell. She spent her early life in the country school and taught school in the country for a number of years. In 1877 she was married to Sam J. Miller and to this union five children were born; they are (Mabel) Mrs. Harve W. Cole of Perry, (Anna) Mrs. Fred Klove of Evanston, Ill.; (Margaret) Mrs. Harry Rasmussen of Battle Creek, Mich., and Ben and Dean Miller of Sturgis, Mich. All the children were present during the last illness and death of their mother and attended the rites and burial at Maxwell.

Besides her children and seven grandchildren, she leaves four sisters, Mrs. C. J. Porter and Mrs. H. J. Garlock of Maxwell; Mrs. Charles Woods of Ames and Mrs. W. P. Walton of Cleghorn.

The Millers were pioneers of this community, and had the usual hospitality of the early day residents. They lived on a farm west of town for many years and later on an acreage adjoining Maxwell on the east until about twelve years ago, when they moved to Silver Lake, Wis., to make their future home.

After the death of Mr. Miller, four years ago, she pent several winters in the home of her daughter in Perry and was there continuously for over a year after her health failed. Interment was made in the family lost in the Maxwell cemetery.
