Funeral Services for O. A. Johnson
Gilbert, Oct. 26--Funeral services for O. A. Johnson who died early Saturday morning were held Tuesday afternoon. A brief prayer service was held at the home of his son Lester at 2 p. m. and 2:30 at the Gilbert Congregational church.

The Rev. J. P. Himmel pastor, was in charge of the service and used as his text Psalms 90th chapter, 12th verse. "So teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom." A quartet composed of B. D. Kent, Ralph Hillis, Clate Manges and A. L. Dickinson sang two hymns "Going Home" and "Some Sweet Day." They were accompanied at the piano by Mrs. M. F. Latham. The many beautiful floral offerings sent to the funeral were cared for by Mrs. Ed Sinn, Mrs. Ralph Lawrence an Mrs. B. D. Kent. Serving as pall bearers were Ernest Shepard, Virgil Rainbolt, John Liddle, Ole Wold, Ed Sinn and George Askelson. Interment was in the Gilbert cemetery.

Oscar A. Johnson was born Feb. 20, 1872 in Story county, Iowa and died Oct. 19, 1935. His parents were Wm. S. and Nancy Ann Johnson. In 1897 he was united in marriage to Irene E. Oliver. to this union was born four children, Lester of Gilbert, Earl of Sioux City, Ruth of Pittsburg, Pa., and Carroll of Cleveland, Ohio. The early part of his life was spent on a farm north of Gilbert. Soon after his marriage he moved to Gilbert where he associated with his father-in-law L. Oliver in the lumber and implement business. In February 1906 the family moved to a farm west of Gilbert. There he spent the greater part of the remainder of his life.

He was a devoted husband and father, and unselfishly gave to the happiness of his home and family. His services were always willingly given to a neighbor in need of them. Besides his four children, he leaves seven grandchildren, one brother Clinton of Winnebago, Minn., and his friends.

Among those from out of town here to attend the funeral were his daughter Mrs. Albert Kimball of Pittsburgh, Pa., his sons Carroll of Cleveland, O., Earl, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Johnson and family of Sioux City, Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Johnson and William Johnson of Winnebago, Minn., Miss Isabelle Johnson of Des Moines and Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Hansman of Des Moines. Besides a large number of friends from Ames and Story City and the surrounding country.
