Funeral Services Held at Slater Friday for George Legvold

Special to the Journal.
Slater, June 7--Funeral services for George Legvold were held Friday afternoon at 1:15 o'clock at the Riis Funeral Home. The services were in charge of Rev. G. W. Lockensgard of Des Moines. Beautiful floral offering were presented in memory of the departed friend.

Walter Christopher of Huxley sang a solo, "We'll Never Say Good-Bye In Heaven." A vocal duet, "My Faith Looks Up To Thee," was sung by Mrs. M. S. Heggen and Mrs. A. L. Peterson.

The pall bearers were: Lars Legvold and Sam Legvold of Perry, Sam Legvold of Ames; Arne Christopher of Sheldahl, Joe Houge and R. C. Lande. Among those attending the services in Slater were Mrs. Clara Bonus of Redondo Beach, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. John Legvold and Mrs. Ora Hutton of Madrid, Mr. and Mrs. Lars Legvold and Sam Legvold of Perry, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Legvold, Rev. and Mrs. G. W. Franklin and Miss Ruby Daggett of Ames; Mr. and Mrs. Ole Legvold, Mrs. Steele and Walter Christopher of Huxley; and Mr. and Mrs. Arne Christopher of Sheldahl. Following the service here, the funeral party left for Des Moines where services were held at 3 o'clock at the Central Lutheran church, in charge of Rev. Lockensgard.

Mrs. L. S. Kloster of Des Moines sang two solos, "One Sweetly Solemn Thought" and "On Wings of Snow." Burial was made in the Glendale cemetery in Des Moines.

Mrs. Legvold had bee resident of Des Moines for many years and was a member of the Central Lutheran church.

George Legvold was born near Bergen, Norway, January 30, 1860, and passed away at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, May 31, 1943 at the age of 83 years, 4 months and 1 day.

At the age of 20 years he came to America and settled in Sheldahl, where he started working for the railroad company and continued in different forms of railroad work in various parts of Iowa for the greater part of his life. His home was in Des Moines for many years. Although he only lived in Slater for two years, he made many friend who held him in high esteem. In August, 1883, he was married to Miss Mary Peterson. To this union two daughters were born, Miss Tillie Boyd, who died in 1923, and Mrs. Clara Bonus of Redondo Beach, California. His wife died 19 years ago.

His second marriage took place in January, 1928 to Hannah Samuelson. She passed away in 1936. After her death he spent several Redondo Beach, California. His daughter, Mrs. Bonus.

In April, 1941 he was married to Mrs. Christina Houge of Slater, who survives him. He is also survived by his daughter, Mrs. Clara Bonus of Redondo Beach, Calif.; nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ole Legvold of Huxley and John Legvold of Madrid; and a number of relatives and friends.
