Funeral Services for Barney Legvold

Special to the Journal.
Huxley, June 27--Funeral services for Barney Legvold were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 from the Fjeldberg Lutheran church. Services were in charge of Dr. J. N. Andersen. Following the reading of scripture, a hymn "Who knows how near my life's expended" was sung by the audience. Dr. Andersen preached the sermon on the text "Prepare to Meet Thy God." "Nearer My God to Thee" was sung by the audience.

The floral offerings from relatives and friends were beautiful. Interment was in the Fjeldberg cemetery. The pall bearers were Sack Toresdahl, A. T. Fjelland, Lars Ritland, Andrew Ritland, Wier Ritland and Hans Handeland.

Barney Legvold was a son of Ole S. and Ingebor [should be Torbjor] Legvold. He was born near Stavanger, Norway, March 1, 1864. In 1886 he came to America and spent the greater part of the time in Des Moines and Madrid. The last 17 years he lived at the home of his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ole Legvold at Huxley. The past five years he was ill with diabetes, and had been bedfast for six months. Five weeks ago he was taken to the Story county home for care. He passed away Saturday, June 22 at 11 a. m., having reached an age of 71 years, 3 months and 21 days. The body was brought to the Larson funeral home at Huxley and prepared for burial.

He had four brothers, Sam the oldest, who lived in Norway preceded him in death three years ago. His parents passed away many years ago. The surviving brothers are Ole of Huxley, John of Madrid and George of Newark, Ill. George who recently moved from Des Moines to Illinois is ill, and was unable to attend the funeral. Among those from a distance in attendance were Mr. and Mrs. John Legvold of Madrid, Mrs. Boners of Des Moines, Mrs. Lars Legvold of Perry, Mr. and Mrs. Ole Erickson and son Reuben and Mrs. Ben Knutson of Roland.
