THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, June 22, 2005.

Charles Edward Banks, 84, of Nevada, died Monday, June 20, at home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 24, at First Christian Church with the Rev. Brice Hughes officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens in rural Nevada.

Charles Edward Banks was born on Sept. 14, 1920, in Burns, Kan., to Wilber and Edith Mary Milcent (Yocum) Banks. He graduated from Cambridge High School in 1941 and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He married Helen Lavonne Montgomery on Jan. 18, 1945, in Cambridge. He was employed at Graphic Forms from 1951 to 1985. Charles enjoyed the auctioneering business and was a member of First Christian Church in Nevada.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Banks of Nevada; one daughter, Charlene (James) Dempsey of Fort Smith, Ark.; three grandchildren, Sarah Ramirez of Kremmling, Colo., Seth Voyce of San Diego and Shon Dempsey of Fort Smith, Ark; and seven great-grandchildren, Savannah Ramirez, Austin Ramirez, Kassidy Ramirez, Marcos Ramirez, Maya Ramirez, Brittany Voyce, and Cody Voyce.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Laura Vogt in April 2004 and Kathryn Vogt in March 2003; and two brothers in infancy.

Visitation with the family present will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 23, at Chet Ryan Mortuary.

A memorial fund has been established.
