Tjelmeland Funeral Held at McCallsburg

McCallsburg, June 5--The funeral of Miss Martha Malene Tjelmeland of Chicago was held Saturday afternoon at 3:30 at the home of her sister, Mrs. Tollif Haaland and four o'clock at the Bethany Lutheran, near McCallsburg, with the Rev. H. N. Bakke officiating. The pall bearers were all cousins of the deceased; Wier Frette, William, Martin, Ward, Andrew and Tilmer Tjelmeland.The music was furnished by Mrs. T. A. Sorem of Roland, who sang at the house and Mrs. Barney Imsland and Mrs. Ray Skartvedt, who sang at the church. "No Dissappointment in Heaven" and "When I Get to the End of the Way," accompanied at the piano Mrs. John Helland.
The funeral march and postlude was played by Mrs. Skartvedt.
The floral offerings were many and beautiful and six dollars were given in her memory to missions by neighbors and friends. Burial was made in the Warren township cemetery.
Martha Malene Tjelmeland was born in Skaanevik, Norway, Dec. 14 1897 and died at the Chicago Fresh Air Hospital May 29, 1935 at the age of thirty seven years.
She is survived by her father Eric Tjelmeland of Norway, four brothers and five sisters, Wier, Samuel and Tollif of Norway, Rangnald of Laurens, Ia., Bertha and Yshama Tjelmeland, Mrs. Emma Skieseid of Norway, Mrs. Elida Olson of Chicago and Mrs. Martha Haalaand of McCallsburg.
Her mother died four years ago on January 9, 1931.
Among those in attendance from away were Mr. and Mrs. Nels Frette, Elmore, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Wier Frette, Buffalo Center, Rangnald Tjelmeland of Laurens, Mr.a nd Mrs. Iverson, Mr. and Mrs. Sorenson and Belle Hoveland, all of Des Moines and a large number of relatives and friends for Hardin county and Roland.
