Last Rites For Martha Haaland Were Held Monday
Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Haaland, 904 Seventh street, were held from Bethany Lutheran church in McCallsburg Monday afternoon at 2:00 p. m. with the Rev. Perry Heller, assisted by the Rev. Victor Hackbarth, officiating.
Donald Insland and Mrs. Cecil Henderson, accompanied by Mrs. J. R. Dillin at the organ, furnished music for the service.
The flowers were arranged by Mrs. Alfred Mannes and Mrs. Nolen Ostrem.
The casket bearers were Andrew Bakke, Helmer Eggland, Oscar Osmundson, Erling Shold, John Sorem and Andrew Tjelmeland.
Burial was in the McCallsburg cemetery.
Obituary
Martha Tjelmeland Haaland was born Oct. 23, 1890, in Tjelmeland Kryping, Norway, a daughter of Erick and Mari Tjelmeland. Her death occurred in the Story County Hospital in Nevada, June 3, 1960, at the age of 69 years, 7 months and 11 days.She was confirmed and baptized in the Lutheran church in Norway She came to the United States in 1914, locating at Roland.
On Feb. 20, 1917, Martha was united in marriage to Tollef O. Haaland at the Lutheran parsonage in Des Moines. Mr. and Mrs. Haaland lived on a farm south of Roland until 1931, when they moved to their own farm south of McCallsburg. In September of 1953 they moved to Nevada to 904 Seventh street.
In June, 1959, Mrs.. Haaland became ill and was hospitalized a number of times until the time of her death.
Surviving are the husband, Tollef O. Haaland, three sons Ole and Tillet of McCallsuburg and Jul of Nevada; 10 grandchildren; four brothers and sisters, Rangval Tjelmeland of Laurens, Iowa, Wier and Samuel Tjelmeland of Norway and Tollef Tjelmeland of Chicago, Mrs. Bertha Overmes, Mrs. Anna Skeiseid and Johanna Bauge of Norway.
