THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, July 1, 1920, page 1, column 2. "THOMAS WHITAKER. - Thomas Whitaker passed away Wednesday afternoon, June 23rd, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Albert Carter. Mr. Whitaker was one of Story county's pioneers, having spent many years in the southern part of Nevada township. He was eighty-four years, two months and twenty-four days of age. He is survived by five children and seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. His children are: Mrs. O. G. Tichenor and Mrs. Mary Tichenor, of Colo; Mrs. Carter, of Maxwell; Mrs. Ed Coxworth, of Nevada, and Frank Whitaker, of near Nevada. Mr. Whitaker was a man of sterling character and his influence always counted on the side of right. He has been failing in health for a number of years, but the decline has been rapid during the last three weeks. For several years he has made his home with his children. Funeral services were held in the Summit United Evangelical church, south of Nevada, Friday at 2:00 p. m., conducted by Rev. J. M. Bamford, of Harlan. Interment was made beside his wife, one son and one daughter in the Summit cemetery. Sincere smypathy** is extended to the bereaved ones."
