THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, May 11, 1899, page 5, column _. "Mrs. Thomas Whitaker, of Nevada Township, died on Sunday, after an illness of a month or more. Services held at Summitt Evangelical church, on Tuesday conducted by Rev. Pickford."

"OBITUARY. - Harriet Whitaker nee McConnell, was born in Allen county, Ohio, July 27, 1841, came with her parents to Iowa in 1855, was married to Thomas Whitaker, Feb. 17, 1859, and settled on the farm where they have since resided in Nevada twp., Story county, until the time of her death which occurred Oct. 15, 1899, at the age of 58 years, 2 months and 18 days. Six children together with her husband remain to mourn her loss. They are all residents of Story county. She was a member of the Summit Evangelical church and the funeral service, which was largely attended was held there on Tuesday 11 a. m. conducted by the pastor and Rev. G. W. Mullen. Interment was made in the cemetery near the Summit church."
