THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, February 22, 1906, page 1, column 3. "Horrible Accident at Ames. - On last Thursday evening as Mrs. J. T. White and daughters, Sadie and Hazel, were driving from church to their home in the north part of Ames, the carriage in which they were riding was struck by a fast meat train on the Northwestern at the stock yards crossing in that city. The mother and the younger daughter, Hazel, were in the front seat, and seeing the train coming, Miss Hazel jumped and escaped with slight injury. Mrs. White was hurled about 100 feet and her injured body deposited on the right-of-way. Miss Sadie, who was about twenty-one years old, was sitting in the rear seat of the carriage and was struck by the engine and probably instantly killed. She was carried about a mile and a half when her body was finally thrown between the rails and passed over by the train, being horribly mangled. The remains were picked up and carried back to Ames by the searching party which found them. Mrs. White was taken to her home, where medical attention was given at once. She is a sister of Clerk of Courts, C. P. McCord, of Nevada, who was notified at once, as was also her other brother, Dr. E. S. McCord, of Ames, both men going to the White home at once. Mr. White, who is traveling for a patent medicine company, was away from home and could not be located until Friday noon, when he was found at Boone and was at once notified of the awful calamity that had come to his family. The White family lived at Collins for a number of years and are well and favorably know in that city, Miss Sadie being a graduate of the Collins high school. Mrs. White was a sister of the late Mrs. John Ray, and the White family are well and favorably known in Maxwell, where scores of friends extend their tenderest sympathies to those in distress. The funeral of Miss Sadie White was held at Iowa Center Sunday afternoon. At last report Mrs. White was resting as well as could be expected from her injuries."
