"HELLAND FUNERAL HELD THURSDAY
LAST RITES HELD FOR WARREN TOWNSHIP FARMER IN BERGEN CHURCHFuneral services were held Thursday for Joseph E. Helland at the home and at Bergen Lutheran church, Rev. M. O. Sumstad officiating. Interment was made in the Roland cemetery. Music was furnished by a ladies quartet composed of Misses Betty Britson, Myrtie Anderson and Esther Cole, and Mrs. Cyrus Christian. The pall bearers were Nels B. Anderson of Clarion, Otis B. Anderson of Ames, C. C. Helvig, J. O. Twedt, Jacob and Henry J. Brekke.
Joseph E. Helland was born March 9, 1885, near Roland and passed away at the Mercy hospital in Des Moines November 12, 1934, at the age of 49 years, 8 months and 3 days. He was son of the late Edward and Hannah Helland, and had lived all his life in this community. He was confirmed in 1899 by Rev. O. P. Vagness.
He was married to Julia Marie Handahl October 11, 1910. To this union three children were born, Helen (Mrs. Theodore Olson), Evelyn and James, who survive him together with his wife.
He is also survived by a brother, Peter Helland of Platte, S. D., and two sisters, Mrs. Abe Tuttle of Blue Earth, Minn., and Mrs. Ole Olson of Glenville, Minn. A brother, Willie, died nine years ago and a half-sister, Hannah, died seven years ago.
