JOHN PATTON IS DEAD AT COLLINS

WELL KNOWN CITIZEN PASSED AWAY IN DES MOINES HOSPITAL

Special to the Journal.
Collins, Sept. 4--John C. Patton, 77, longtime resident of this community died at the Iowa Lutheran hospital in Des Moines Monday evening at 10:30.

Funeral services will be held at the Church of Christ in Collins on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 with Rev. Kight of Des Moines in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery here.

The deceased was born September 10, 1857, at Indianapolis, Ind., a son of Joseph and Artimesa Patton. He came to Iowa with his parents when a small child, the family settling first on a farm near Boone, later moving to near Collins.

He was married to Nancy Jane Guy, at the old Guy homestead near Collins in 1880. The young couple moved to Hamilton county where they lived for 12 years and in 1890 went west, locating at Lamar, Colo. Nine years later they moved to Pender, Neb., where they made their home until 1908 when they returned to Collins and located on the old Guy homestead. There they lived until 1917 when they went to Paris, Mo., where they remained for but a year, returning to Collins in 1918, where their home had continued since.

He leaves his wife and seven children, one child having died in infancy. The children are Raleigh and Guy Patton of Collins; Ada E. Ruehl of Pender, Nev., Nora I. Willey of Omaha; Clarence of Ira and Maurice of Omaha. He also leaves a sister Jennie Burt of Des Moines, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.

He was a charter member of the I.O.O.F. lodge at Maxwell, as well as of the Rebekah and Masonic lodges and the Church of Christ.
