Funeral Services Held at Huxley for Mrs. Leva Lande

Slater, Jan. 4--Funeral services for Mrs. Leva Lande of Huxley were held at the Bethlehem church in Slater, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. E. R. Rorem of Story City had charge of the services and took as his text, John 3:16.

Miss Gladys Estrem and Mrs. Jean R. Burgess sang a duet, "The Lights of Home." Another duet in Norwegian, "Den Store Hvide Flok Vi Se," was sung by Mrs. M. S. Heggen and Mrs. A. L. Peterson. The pall bearers were Olem Tesdell, Thor Mason, Andrew Larson, Andrew Ritland and N. T. Sydness of Huxley, and Oscar Fritz of Slater.

Gifts of money to the missions in memory of Mrs. Lande were given by relatives and friends. Burial was made in the Bethlehem cemetery.

Leva Simonson Lande was born June 10, 1866, in Palestine township, Story county, and died December 27, 1943, at the Mary Greeley hospital in Ames, at the age of 77 years, 6 month and 17 days. Her parents were Thomas and Elizabeth Simonson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Her marriage to George Lande took place in the early '80's.

Five children were born to this union, Amos, Thomas, Ole, Elmer and Mabel. Her husband and children preceded her in death. She is survived by one grandson, Lester Ritland, serving in the armed forces in Africa; one great granddaughter, Ramona Ritland of Des Moines; one brother, T. T. Simonson of Slater, and several nieces and nephews.

A large number of relatives from Huxley attended the services, and Ramona Ritland and Marie Lande of Des Moines. Alma Lande and Mrs. S. B. Lande of Ames also were out of town relatives in attendance.
