Obituary
Mrs. Lawrence Moorhead was born Etta Myrtle Stemler, oldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Stemler, on July 23, 1891 in the state of Kansas and passed to her eternal reward in a Des Moines hospital last Monday June 8th, 1953 at the age of 61 years, 10 months and 15 days.
She spent her early days in her parental home in Kansas but at the age of 14 suffered the loss of her mother by death. As the oldest daughter in the family she learned early to assume life's serious responsibilities. At the age of 18 she came to Iowa an ono January 31st 1917 was joined in hold wedlock with Lawrence Moorhead. Two daughters were born to this union.
As a good faithful Christian wife and mother she shared life's joys and burdens with her husband as they occupied different farms in Story and Polk counties.
She united with the Untied Brethren Church at Whit Oak and retained her membership there to the end.
Mrs. Moorhead was not blessed with physical health that was good but she nevertheless continued bravely on in uncomplaining fortitude meeting the obligations and responsibilities of life with Christian courage. She was helpful and cheery toward all with whom she came into contact year after year.
She experienced a special joy and pleasure this last Easter Sunday when she and her husband stood up wit their grandson, James Shockley, after his confirmation and partook with him of the holy sacrament of the Lord's Supper in his first communion at the Salem Church in Alleman.
About the middle of last week she was suddenly laid low by a stroke and although taken to a hospital for medical care all was to no avail and last Monday her tired spirit departed this mortal body to be as we confidently hope at rest with her Lord.
One brother, Pearlie Stemler, preceded her in death in 1942.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence Moorhead; two daughters, Mary Alma Shockley of Des Moines and Laura Pauline Baldwin of Cambridge; one brother, Ora Stemler of Nevada; 14 grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces; distant relatives and a host of friends who sill deeply miss her kindly presence.
