Herman Hendrickson Buried Tuesday With Full Military Honors

Herman Hendrickson, 56, World War Veteran of Cambridge, who died suddenly on Friday, was laid to rest in the Cambridge cemetery Tuesday afternoon, with full military honors, with members of Story County Post No. 2209 Veterans of Foreign Wars of Nevada and Mathias Wire Post American Legion Post of Cambridge, of which organization he was a member, participating in the ritualistic service.

The funeral service was held at the Lutheran church of Cambridge with the pastor Rev. Jacobson, assisted by Rev. Paul Smith of the United Brethren Church, in charge.

Herman Hendrickson was born at Cambridge, Iowa, on April 3, 1887 and passed away on Nov. 19, 1943 at the age of 56 years, 7 months and 16 days.

He was baptized in the Lutheran church and most of his life was spent in Cambridge.

He was a Veteran of Foreign Wars, having entered the service April 29, 1918 He was sent across June 13, 1918 and participated in the St. Mihiel and Meuse Argonne offensives and after the armistice was a part of the Army of Occupation, serving overseas for one year and 2 days. He was honorably discharged June 24, 1919.

Herman was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hendrickson, two sisters, Lesa Hendrickson and Mrs. Clara Fox and one brother, Torval Hendrickson. He leaves to mourn his passing two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. W. H. Lapp of Ames, Mrs. LeRoy Knapp of Nevada; I. O Hendrickson of Los Angeles and Oscar Hendrickson, now located at Fort St. John, British Columbia, Canada, and other relatives including two nephews, Eugene B. Fox of Corvallis, Ore., and Charles William Lapp of Ames, now serving in the Army Air Corps.

Herman was a member in good standing of Story County Post 2209 Veterans of Foreign Wars of Nevada and of Mathias Wire Post American Legion of Cambridge.

The services were largely attended by relatives and old neighbors and friends in addition to the war veterans who participated in the service at the grave.
