Funeral Rites for Late Tom Tollefson

Funeral services for Tom Tollefson, 66, who died at his home in Cambridge late Friday afternoon, will be held Tuesday afternoon. There will be a prayer service at the home at 2:00, followed by the funeral proper at 2:30 at the Cambridge M. E. church, with Rev. John Deedrick of the Nevada Evangelical church in charge.

Tom Tollefston was born in Norway on July 21, 1967; departed this life from Cambridge, Iowa March 30, 1934 having attained to an age of 66 years and 8 months. As a lad of 16 years in company with his elder sister, Mrs. Shelby, he left his native country and landed in Adrian, Minnesota on the 4th day of July, 1884. The fall of that same year he came to Story county, Iowa, and except one year in Illinois and later four years spent in southwestern Minnesota, he spent his life in Story county in and around Cambridge, Slater and Nevada.

On May 28, 1892 he was united in marriage to Milla Larson. To this union were born nine children, one daughter Viola having preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife and eight children, Mrs. Sina Severson of Ames, Mrs. Tilma Severson of Chowchilla, California, Fern and Floyd of Cambridge, Mrs. Lenora Eacret, Mrs. Jessie Hubbard, Tillet and Sheldon of Nevada, all of whom are present today except Tilma of California. Also sixteen grandchildren, one brother, Lars, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, one sister, Mrs. O. O. Hofstad of Veblin, S. D. and one brother and four sisters in Norway.

He was soundly converted in his early young manhood. When moving from place to place he would be sure to find also a church home, not by mere transfer of membership but by regular attendance and active church work. The last ten years of his life he has been a member of the Evangelical church in Nevada. His life was a living testimony of saving grace and an open book that all his neighbors could read, an Israel, indeed, in whom was no guile.

Two years ago he was operated upon for cancer at Rochester, Minn. For some time he enjoyed a fair degree of health, until the last few months again he became an intense sufferer, but through it all he showed great patience and wonderful fortitude. When the final summons came, he slept away so sweetly and so calmly that those at his bedside could scarcely discern just when his spirit took its flight into the Heavenly home above. His going leaves tender memories of a most faithful and devoted husband and kind and affectionate father and a sympathetic and helpful neighbor.
