Mrs. Sarah E. Fitch Had Been Resident of State 80 Years.
Mrs. Sarah E. Fitch, for 80 years a resident of Iowa, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Alta Moon at Lake Crystal, Minn., June 16, 1923 having passed her eighty-first birthday April 20, last.
The funeral was conducted at the Moon home Wednesday, June 20, with Rev. Resser of the First M. E. church of Lake Crystal in charge and interment was in the cemetery at Lake Crystal.
Mrs. Fitch had been making her home with her son Ernest H. and daughter, Mrs. Mitchell in Des Moines for over three years and had been suffering from a cancer. She had gone to Minnesota to visit at the home of her daughters an son and incidentally had bee at Rochester where she had been taking radium treatments at the hands of the Mayo surgeons.
She was a native of St. Charles, Mo., but came up to Iowa when about a year old an the Hawkeye state had been her home since. Her maiden name was Sarah E. McNamee and she leaves two brothers, Cyrus McNamee age 93 of Seattle and Rev. Luther McNamee 86 of Austin, Minn.
She was married to R. A. Fitch an their home was in Delaware county for many years. It was n 1893 that they came to Story county and lived for many years in and around Zearing. The husband passed away February 4, 1921.
She leave besides the two brothers named, four sons and three daughters, besides many grand children and great grandchildren. The children are Mrs. M. C. Malvin, G. L. Fitch and Mrs. L. H. Moon all of Lake Crystal, Minn., Mrs. Stella Mitchell who makes her home with her brother, E. H. Fitch in Des Moines, H. L. Fitch of Denison and Victor C. and Ernest H. Fitch of Des Moines. All of the children were present at the funeral services.
Mrs. Fitch was a woman most kindly remembered by a wide circle of friends in the north part of this county where she live for many years. She was a wonderful mother and a truly Christian woman in the broad sense of the word. The children will receive the most profound sympathy of all in their hours of deep bereavement.
