THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, November 12, 1896, page 5. "DEATH OF JAMES THOMPSON - Died at his home, four miles northwest of Maxwell, Nov. 5, 1896, James Thompson, aged sixty-three years, after an illness of only about one week. Mr. T. was a native of Ohio, but came to Iowa when comparatively a young man. For many years he had made his home of the farm where he died. He was a good man in every respect, and enjoyed the confidence of all who knew him. He was God's noblest work, "An honest man." As a citizen he stood high in the esteem of his fellow men. For many years he'd had been a faithful member of the Baptist church, and died in that communion. He was also a member of the Masonic fraternity of this place and was buried according to their beautiful and impressive ritualistic service. The funeral was held in the Cumberland Presbyterian church of this place on Friday, the 6th at 11 a. m. The music was furnished by the choir of that church, with Miss Ethel Thompson at the organ. Rev. McVicker read the scriptures; Rev. Clark, pastor of the U. B. church of Cambridge, offered prayer; Elder Bodenham, Mr. T.'s pastor, then delivered the funeral discourse from Rev. 14:13, and paid a glowing tribute to the memory of the departed. The Masonic lodge of this place then took charge and rendered their service under the direction of Dr. Joor as master, J. W. Maxwell marshal, and Rev. Ferguson chaplain. Mr. Thompson was an industrious, careful man, and had opened up a nice farm with a comfortable home. He leaves a bereaved widow and one son, Dr. Frank Thompson, of Cambridge. These have the sympathy of the entire community in their sac bereavement. CARD OF THANKS - Mrs. James Thompson and son hereby extend their sincere thanks to their neighbors and friends for their kindness to them in the affliction which came to them in the sickness and death of their husband and father. To one and all they feel profoundly grateful, and assure them that their kindness will not be forgotten."
