THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE December 23, 1909: "OBITUARY - MRS. MARY THOMPSON The death of Mrs. Mary Thompson occurred at her home in this city Tuesday, December 14th. Mrs. Thompson has not had the best of health for sometime but her last illness was of short duration and her death was a shock to most of her friends. The funeral services were held, Friday afternoon at the M. E. church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. H. G. Hicks, assisted by Rev. Ilsley, of the Presbyterian church. Interment was in the Maxwell cemetery. Mary Elizabeth Hale was born in Henrietta, Lorain county, Ohio, September 24, 1844. At the age of eighteen she was married to Ely Hamble (Hannible) Whitney and later the couple came to this county, residing on a farm. Of this union seven children were born, one of whom died in infancy and one, Clayton, passed away at the age of thirty-eight. The children living are Mrs. Jennie Witmer, of this city; Mrs. Cora Gagle, of Colfax; Allen Whitney of this place; Roy Whitney of Highmore, S. D., and Edwin Whitney of Canton, MI. Mr. Whitney died May 20 1891, and soon after the family moved to this city where the deceased has made her home since. On February 13, 1894, she was married to R. R. Thompson, whose death occurred June 24, 1904. Mrs. Thompson, then Mary Hale, was converted at the age of fourteen, and united with the Baptist church. On January 4, 1893, she united with the Methodist church of Maxwell and remained an active and faithful member until she was transferred to the church above. She was of a cheerful disposition and carried sunshine and good cheer with her wherever she went. She will be greatly missed in the church she loved, the community in which she had so long resided and in the home where she was loved by all. Of her it may be said, "Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord; they rest from their labors and their works do follow them." Besides the children mentioned above there are left to mourn her loss four brothers and two sisters". CARD OF THANKS: To those who have been with us in our bereavement in the death of our mother, Mrs. Mary Thompson, and by their words and kindly acts have tried to lessen our sorrow we extend our sincere thanks - The children."
