Rites In Maxwell For O. F. Strombeck

MAXWELL: Last rites for Oliver Forney Strombeck, Maxwell druggist for more than 50 years, were held from the Cooper Funeral Home in Maxwell, Monday, Nov. 21, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. E. R. Walter and Stanley Farmer, officiating.

The music was by Alice Gooden and Madeline Summitt. The flowers were arranged by Alice Holland and Leota Scott.

Honorary casket bearers were C. B. French, Harve Cole, and R. B. Bullard.

Casket bearers were Dr. Wm. Joor, R. J. Martin, Louis Strother, Ray Gooden, Robert Thompson and Jack Vallandingham.

Interment was in the Maxwell cemetery with graveside services by Herald Lodge, No. 455, A.F. & A.M.

Obituary

Oliver Forney Strombeck, youngest son of Charley and Malinda Brady Strombeck, was born in Syracuse, Ind., Aug. 23, 1878 and died at the Story County Hospital in Nevada, Nov. 18, 1955 at the age of 77 years, 4 mo. and 5 days. He was one of six children, all of whom preceded him in death.

He came to Iowa with his parents and settled on a farm near Mitchellville. His mother died when he was but three years of age and his father, when he was 12. He was taken into the home of Noble Hall, close friends of his parents, and was later taken by the late George Garlock family near Loring.

He united with the Evangelical church at Loring at the of 16 years. He attended rural schools, later the Maxwell school and went to work in the drug store for the late George Benedict, the first druggist in Maxwell, on December 21, 1899. He continued working in this store and finally became sole owner of the same.

He received his 50-year certificate in Pharmacy, Aug. 2, 1954 and his 50 years in the Masonic order in April of 1953. He was Past Master of the Herald Lodge, No. 455, A.F. & A.M.

He was united in marriage to Ida Helena Koehn, June 31, 1905. He, with his wife, united with the Presbyterian church, and held different offices in this church, also being township clerk for many years until his death.

He is survived by his wife and a number of nephews, nieces and cousins.
