Last Rites For Harriet Stephens Largely Attended [This is a misplaced headline.]

Funeral services for Marcus Wike were held Wednesday, August 3, at 2 p.m. from the Grace EUB church in Story City with Rev. W. D. Winter officiating.

Mr. and Mrs. Truman Quam sang two selections, "Beyond the Sunset" and "Jesus, My Friend." Janet Johnson served at the organ.

Pallbearer were Ira Thorson, Martin Teig, Sherman Sunnes, Hiram Anderson, Swerdrop Sansgaard and Albert Omvig. Interment was in the Story City cemetery.

Obituary

Marcus Swen Wike, son of Gonder and Brunhilda Wike, was born in Hamilton County, Iowa on March 20, 1883 On October 21, 1907, he was married to Elizabeth Brooks at Crookston, Minn. To this union were born three children.

In the year 1936 the family moved from Hamilton County to a farm east of Story City. About 21 years ago Mr. Wike developed arthritis which grew steadily worse. In 1942 he and his wife moved to Story where he for many years, was in a semi-invalid to invalid condition. She died April 6, 1954 after ministering to her husband's needs for years.

The granddaughter, Delores, cared for her grandfather following the death of Mrs. Wike. November of last years he was taken to the Story City Memorial Hospital where he remained until his death. For many years he held his membership in the Grace EUB church, Story City although his physical condition prevented him from attending services.

He died Monday morning, August 1, following an attack on the previous Friday. He was 72 years, 4 months and 11 days of age.

Preceding him in death in addition to his wife, was a sister, Mrs. George Larson of Compton, Calif.

Survivors include his stepmother, Mrs. Bertha Wike of Story City, three daughters, Ruby, Mrs. Otis Weltha, Randall; Evelyn, Mrs. Archie Durby, Jewell; and Blanche, Mrs. Guy Templer, Jewell, nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren, two brothers, Anton of Mobile, Ala., and Sigvald of Eugene, Ore, one sister, Mrs. Magnus Miller, Story City also a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
