Obituary Of Mrs. Le Roy Hittle

STORY CITY--Funeral services were held for Helen Beroen Hittle in the Immanuel Lutheran church, Story City Thursday afternoon, October 14 for Mrs. Helen Beroen Hittle. The hymn "I Know of a Sleep in Jesus' Name" was sung by the congregation. Rev. T. J. Alvestad had charge of the services and read three of deceased' favorite Bible passages--Isaiah 43.1, II Timothy 4:7-8, John 14:1-3. His sermon text was from Revelation 21:1-4.

The soloist Vern Hill sang "Abide With Me" and "The Lord's Prayer>" Burial was in Fairview cemetery.

Pallbearers were cousins of the deceased Gaylord Henryson, Howard Johnson, Bertram Amlund, Oswald Thorson, Francis Reisetter and Edward Reisetter.

Memorial gifts were given to the American Cancer Society, missions, Immanuel Organ Fund, Immanuel Parsonage fund, Beloit Children's Hmoe, Ames; Waldorf college, Story City Hospital, St. Petri Building Fund, besides many beautiful floral offerings.

Obituary

Helen Beroen Hittle of Olympia, Wash., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis B. Beroen of Story City, was born November 8, 1913 in Hamilton county. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

She was a graduate of the Story City high school and Waldorf college at Forest City. Helen then attended Drake University in Des Moines and was graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Education.

On June 29, 1941 she was united in marriage with Leroy M. Hittle, son of Mrs. Thomas J. Hittle and the late Mr. Hittle of Los Angeles, Calif. On May 28, 1951 this union was blessed with the birth of a son, Leroy Bradley.

Helen was a woman of many talents and great ability. At Drake University she was selected as Helen of Troy at the Fine Arts Festival. She was active in the Drake Glee club and Concert choir.

For several years she was a teacher in the Iowa schools. During the war years she held a responsible position in the Intelligence Service at Fort Douglas, Utah. Later she ws a director of social welfare at Olympia, Wash. where her husband is manager of The Capitol Bureau of the Associated Press.

they were member of Gloria Dei Lutheran church in Olympia.

She was active in many organizations and a member of the American Association of University Women, in which she held a position on the Board of Directors of the Olympia Branch. She also served as a member of the Board of Directors at the Olympia Little Theatre. She was a member of the Press Wive's club and of Phi Mu Gamma, Honorary Professional Fine Arts Fraternity for Women.

During the fall of 1953 Mr. and Mrs. Hittle with Gov. Langlie of Washington visited Norway, Sweden, Denmark, France and Germany.

She died Friday morning, October 8 in Olympia, Wash.

In addition to her husband she is survived by her 3 1/2 year old son, Leroy Bradley; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Beroen of Story City; a sister, Mrs. Frederick Lehman of Cedar Rapids and niece and nephew, Rhea and Rolfe Lehman.

Memorial services were held in Olympia, Wash. Monday, October 11 with her pastor there in charge.
