Obituary
Mrs. Emelia Toble Ericson was born February 6, 1880, on the Jorgenson homestead, one mile south of Story City, and departed this life on the 6th day of November, 1951, at the sunset hour.
Her parents, Jacob and Margrethe Jorgenson, were devoted religious people of the Lutheran faith and Emelia was baptized by the pastor, the Rev. Nils Amlund, who served St. Petri church at that time.
Together with the other children of the Jorgenson family, Emelia received Christian instruction throughout the years of childhood and early youth at home and in Sunday and parochial school, until the year of her confirmation, 1894, when the parish of St. Petri was served by the Rev. Jacob Tanner. Throughout her life Mrs. Ericson was a faithful member of that church. General education was given her in the common schools of the Story City community.
On October 12, 1899, in a double wedding in St. Petri church, she was united in marriage to Wier E. Ericson, and her sister, Helen, became the bride of Knut S. Olson. The two couple had the pleasure of celebrating their 25th and 40th anniversaries together.
Mr. and Mrs. Ericson had lived most of their life on a farm three miles northeast of Story City, where Mrs. Ericson passed away, having lived to observe their 52nd anniversary.
Five children were born to this union; Arnold, Morris and Gerhard, all of Story City; Julia (Mrs. Arthur Thorsbakken) of Alden and Ernest of Los Angeles, Calif., all of whom survive.
She leaves to mourn her loss besides her husband and children, two sister, Mrs. Helen Olson of Kenyon, Minn., Anna Jorgenson of Des Moines, one brother, Albert J. Jorgenson of Des Moines and five grandchildren.
Preceding her in death besides her parents were sisters Olena (Mrs. B. T. Holm), Martha and Ellen Jorgenson and brothers M. J. and H. J. Jorgenson and two who died in infancy.
