Last Rites Monday For Charles Weber Yeager

Last rites for Mr. Charles W. Yeager were held at 2:30 p. m. Monday, September 1st, at the Methodist church in Colo.

Rev. Otto Hoffner of Alta Vista, former pastor of the Evangelical United Brethren church in Colo, assisted by Rev. Darrald Eller, the present pastor The 13th chapter of I Corinthians was read for the scripture. Mrs. Jack Koch soloist, sang "Going Home," "Someday He'll Make it Plain to Us" and "The Lord's Prayer," Mrs. Robert Quinn accompanying.

Honorary pallbearers were Charles Reed, Jim Croker, Tom Hefley, Merle Dickinson, Ross King, George Rae, Charles Lehman, E. A. Fawcett, Roy O'Donnell, Charles Fleming, John Hattery and Roger Hopkins.

Casket bearers were Stanley Squires, La Vern Horner, Glen McIntoch, Richard Farren, Eugene Hopkins and Bernice Bowers.

The large number of beautiful floral offerings were cared for by Mrs. Lois Dickenson, Mrs. Irma Hemping, Mrs. Mildred Brouhard and Mrs. Lillie Schuler. The many beautiful flowers and the memorial fund contributions amounting to over $300 testified to the esteem in which he was held by his friends and the community.

Interment was in the Collo cemetery. The Colo American Legion provided an honor guard and presented the flag to the family. Columbia Lodge No. 292 A. F. & A. M. conducted the Masonic graveside service.

The following obituary was read in the services:

Charles Weber Yeager was born April 20, 1888, in Colo, Iowa, the eldest son of Henry Yeager and Anna Weber Yeager, and departed from this life August 31, 1951, at the St. Thomas hospital in Marshalltown at the age of 63 years, 4 months and 11 days.

He was a lifetime resident of Colo. He was graduated from Colo high school in the class of 1903.

On April 4, 1922, he was united in marriage with Lois Elizabeth Johnson at the Johnson home in Zearing. To his union three children were born, Charles W. Jr. of Des Moines, Lois Virginia Pugh of Columbia, Missouri and Cpl. Dean J. of Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his wife, August 8, 1951.

Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Anna Yeager, the three children, two granddaughters, Linda Lois Pugh and Vicki Diane Yeager, and one brother, Florian J. of Silver Spring, Maryland.

His was a full and active life. For many years, he worked in the Colo Savings bank, and conducted a real estate and insurance business. At the time of his death, he was manager of the State Ban & Trust Co. in Colo, Iowa.

He accepted Christ as his Saviour at an early age and untied with the Christian church. On last Easter Sunday he joined the Evangelical United Brethren church. He was an enthusiastic and active supporter of school, Fraternal and community affairs being Past Master of Columbia Lodge No. 292, A. F. & A. M., Past Patron of Isabelle Chapter No. 271, O. E. S., Past Commander of the Colo American Legion, present Service Officer of Colo American Legion, Past State Finance Officer of the American Legion, Past Chef-de-Guerre of 40 & 8 of Story county, Past Noble Grand of Lodge No. 651, I. O. O. F. and present town clerk and treasurer of the school board.

He was a devoted father, giving unsparingly of his time and effort to any activity in which he took part. His honesty and integrity made him a trusted personal and business friend of many people. He was highly respected by all who knew him, living for his family and for the good of others without thought of himself.

Those in attendance from a distance were from Cochrane, Wis., Milwaukee, Wis., Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, Centerville, Boone, Jefferson, Churdan, Ames, Nevada, Zearing, Collins, Maxwell and State Center.
