Obituary

Laura Jane Burton, daughter of Jonathan and Francis Burton, was born at White Oak, south of Cambridge, Iowa, on December 25, 1870 and passed away at the Grayson Nursing home in Des Moines, Iowa, May 13 1953, at the age of 82 years.

She grew to womanhood and lived most of her life in the Cambridge community. It was here that she was united in marriage to James Jones in September 1891. One daughter, Ethel was born to them. Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband in 1920.

She was one of the charter members of the United Brethren church in Cambridge and took a very active part in the work of the church as long as her health permitted. She lived for 25 years with her daughter in Cambridge. The last five years she had been in poor health; four years of which before her death she was cared for in the Grayson Nursing home.

Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Wrex Clawson of Cambridge, four grandchildren, James and Gayle Clawson of Des Moines, Mrs. Arthur Hall of Elkhart and Ross Clawson of Cambridge and also three great grand children.

She was one of a family of seven children, all of whom had preceded her in death, but one sister, Mrs. Allie Hanks of Cambridge.

Mrs. Jones proved herself not only a wonderful mother but also a gracious and devoted grandmother in her daughter's home.
