Last Rites Held For Lolah J. Gibson
MAXWELL -- Funeral services were held from the Maxwell Methodist church Wednesday, May 27, at 2:30 p.m. for Lolah J. Gibson, with Rev. J. F. Rex officiating.
Alice Gooden sang "No Disappointment in Heaven" and Jean Mohler sang "Nearer My God to Thee" accompanied by Jean Dukstra. The floral tributes were beautiful. Casket bearers were Orville Smith, Kenneth Smith, Harold Smith, Donald Smith, Floyd Carver and Archie Ray. Interment was in the Peoria Cemetery.
Obituary
Lolah J. Gibson, daughter of Phillip and Lucinda Smith, was born in Jasper county September 8, 1865, and died last Sunday night May 24, 1953, at the age of 87 years, eight months and 16 days.
She moved with her parents, when a small child, to the Collins community where she grew to womanhood. She was united in marriage to Elsworth Gibson on Sept. 8, 1891. They lived on a farm south of Collins eight years and in 1901 moved to Maxwell where she has since resided in the same house. Mrs. Gibson united with the Maxwell Methodist church over fifty years ago and remained active in church work as long as her health permitted.
She was preceded in death by her husband, father and mother, one sister and four brothers. Surviving are nine nieces and nephews. They are Mrs. Wm. Carver, Nevada; Mrs. Maybelle Dunn, Lawton, Okla.; Mrs. Charles Gifford, Minneapolis, Minn.; Floyd Smith, Grand Junction, Ia.; Orrin Smith and Elmer Smith of Collins, Ia.; Delbian Smith, Greeley, Colo.; Sidney Smith, Denver, Colo. and Grover C. Ozmun of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
