Last Rites Held For Mrs. Belle Ryen

SLATER -- Funeral services for Mrs. Belle Ryen were held Monday afternoon at 1:30 at the Riis funeral home and at two o'clock at the Bethlehem Lutheran church with Rev. P. E. Onstad conducting the services with Rev. Peder Buland of Cambridge assisting.

Rev. Onstad sang a solo, "Under His Wing," and spoke on "the history of a saved soul." Mrs. Lawrence Fausch sand two solos, "I Rather Have Jesus" and "Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus."

Casket bearers were Truman Brown, Ed Rimathe, Amos Ihle, Burton Gandrup, Lawrence Severeid and John Severeid.

Obituary

Mrs. Belle Ryen was born Nov. 11th, 1876, near Cambridge, the daughter of the late Weir W. and Randy Weeks. She was baptized and confirmed in the Palestine church.

On October 15, 1897, she was united in marriage to Peter L. Ryen making their home in Slater where he was in the jewelry business. To this union were born four children, Willard, Byron, Mildred (Mrs. Lester Halverson) and Thomas. She was preceded in death by her husband and two children, Byron and Mildred.

She was a devoted and active member of the Bethlehem Lutheran church and also a charter member of the church W.M.F. and American Legion Auxiliary, as well as active in the W.C.T.U. A loving mother with various activities keeping her busy until she suffered a stroke in April, 1925, causing her to be an invalid until her death at the age of 76 years, two months and six days. Due to her abiding faith and trust in God, she was able to cheerfully adapt herself to her handicap.

She leaves to mourn her passing, two sons, Willard and Thomas of Des Moines; one son-in-law, Lester Halverson of Slater and two sisters, Mrs. O. L. Severeid and Mrs. Oscar Severson of Cambridge; also six grandchildren, one, Philip Halverson, at present serving with the armed forces in Germany.

She passed away Saturday, January 17, 1953 at the Elmcrest nursing home in Des Moines where she had resided the past ten years. May God bless the memory of Belle Ryen.
